英语日记:Oriental aesthetic virtue
Just finished the final Project Proposal, I spent whole day to reach 1500 words. But till now I feel my mind become more clear after I wrote all thoughts down.I feel bit empty few days before, not really learnt much for last term and it’s going to start a new term, even though I did visit lots exhibitions cities, but still no real practical achievement, I hope in the second term I will have a fresh start, because last term I am still trying to get used to this country and city. In my proposal,
the part of ” Context ” I put longest words in it. I want to share here.
Nowadays ceramic is no longer only known as vessels, it becoming a general material which applied by lots of artists, they transfer their concept through the concrete ceramics. The ceramic artist I like most is Lucie Rie, Hans Copper, and Japenese potters, Shoji Hamada and Yagi Kazuo, I appreciate the pure and elegant feeling which their ceramics presenting, making a connection between the inner world and clay, also I admire they transfer “Wabi-sabi” this Japanese philosophy or aesthetic into their works. Recently I was struck by one British ceramic artist named Adam Buick’s land project “Earth to Earth”, I am so inspired by his concept that take clay from
the earth, process it, humanize it and form it, then put it back to the nature’s process, experience the sunshine, moonlight, rain, wind,I appreciate that giving your work its own individual character which is something uncontrolled by ourselves. Also traditional Chinese ceramics in aesthetic sentiment has a great impact on my style, specially the pots before BC in Ancient China, and during the Song Dynasty, this period is not only great for ceramics but also other art forms like painting, poets, architecture and philosophy, they all have reached an extremely high level of the
art taste, represented the confucian virtues of purity, honesty and modesty. I admire their qualities, lack of self-consciousness, serenity and simplicity, keeping this oriental philosophy in my mind and trying to create pure form as the main composition for my work.
Meanwhile western ceramics masters, like Fukumoto Fuku and Jenny Beavan, have an influence on me, their works are solid forms which derive from observing the interaction with everyday domestic ceramics. Also lots artist try to study human’s subconscious world, and express through their works, like Swiss experimental video artist Pipilotti Rist, one of her exhibition named Eyeball Massage, She employing dazzling color sensual music and text to imitate the lousy pictures in her head when she is falling asleep, I have this common subconscious picture before sleep also.
