考文垂大学简介（Coventry University）

考文垂大学是教育机构中历史悠久的大学，其前身一直可追溯到一八四三年成立的考文垂设计学院。目前的学校于一九七零年由数所学院合并而成，一九九二年根据政府立法，定名为考文垂大学。本校包括七所学院：艺术与设计学院、商学院、工程学院、健康与社会科学学院、国际研究与法律学院、数学与信息学学院、科学与环境学院。现在共有十四个学术领域的教学质量获得了二十一分以上的成绩，十个学科的研究获得国内外的认可。考文垂大学有着悠久的历史并以其优良的教育和在多种学科方面的研究而享誉欧洲。该校坐落于英格兰中部考文垂市中心。目前有16，000余名学生在此进修计算机、商科、法律等超过300多门专业，是一所学风严谨的综合性大学。其汽车工程，艺术设计，计算机电子商务，国际关系等实力雄厚。生活费用较为低廉。

专业设置广泛：包括了艺术设计、健康与社会科学、信息学、环境工程、机械工程、计算机、金融经济、管理科学、新闻媒体等超过300个专业设置，提供语言课程、大学预科、大学本科、硕士等学位的学习机会。

校内商学院设有从全日制硕士课程、高级文凭课程及博士课程。与当地各大院校如华威等有交互合作课程，并与德国、法国、希腊、新加坡、台湾及日本等国家的多所高等院校有设有教育合作项目。

Introduction to the Coventry University

Coventry University has its roots deep in the past, although, as a result of the second world war bombing of the city, its buildings and facilities are modern. Before it became the Lanchester College of Technology, named after industrialist Dr Frederick Lanchester, and then Lanchester Polytechnic, it was the Coventry School of Design, dating back to 1843. It became a university in 1992, having been Coventry Polytechnic.

On a 33-acre site in the heart of the city, which envelops the ancient cathedral bombed in the war, the university has a civic-minded attitude to the city itself. It provides degrees in automotive engineering to go with the local motor industry, and there's a self-help centre for members of the public to develop their business ideas. A new library aims to provide access to information to people from across the region.

There have been claims about animosity towards students, but, according to the council and the local paper, relations between town and gown have improved.

Aided by the area's industrial heritage, courses at Coventry maintain a strong vocational emphasis, and have good graduate employment rates. Courses are balanced fairly evenly between arts and sciences. Links with industry enhance graduate employment as well as encourage investment in this cosmopolitan institution.

The students' union, which is very close to the city centre, has a range of good facilities, including bars, clubs and places to eat.
