The University treats all students in a fair and equitable manner. Invigilators overseeing formal exams must ensure that all students abide by the University’s rules and regulations which are promoted well in advance. Notes must not be taken into the room. An announcement is made at the beginning of each session reminding students that any notes that have been brought to the table or are located in student’s pockets must be removed immediately and handed to an invigilator, otherwise candidates are at risk of being charged with an examination offence. Once the exam is in progress candidates leaving the room to visit the toilet are asked to empty their pockets to prevent undeclared notes from being taken into the lavatory and read. It is in overseeing this task that invigilators have been given banned revision notes by students and as a consequence assessment offences have been reported. This exercise is undertaken for every person visiting the toilet during the examination. No candidate is ever body searched.
