SOAS Welcomes New Distance Learning Programmes
We are delighted to welcome the latest additions to SOAS staff and student. On Wednesday 1st August the University of London postgraduate distance learning programmes formerly taught by Imperial Collegejoined SOAS' Department of Financial and Management Studies
The renowned Masters, Postgraduate Diploma and Certificate programmes in Sustainable Development, Environmental Management, Agribusiness for Development, and related subjects have 900 part time students currently enrolled across the world.?br />
The programmes' team of academics, headed by Professor Andrew Dorward, are a welcome addition to SOAS' research strength, while the team of administrative staff supporting the programme, headed by Jon Gregson and Anne Weekes, bring expertise in distance learning that complements SOAS' existing strength.
While our current distance learning programmes in finance, financial law, and management are grouped as The Centre for Financial and Management Studies (CeFiMS), the new programmes, together with the MSc Public Policy and Management, are known as The Centre for Development, Environment and Policy
Professor Laurence Harris, Head of the Department of Financial and Management Studies welcomed the new members enthusiastically, saying 'With our new colleagues and students we have increased the number of postgraduate distance learning students from the Department's current 1500 to 2400. It makes the Department the largest provider of fully structured postgraduate distance learning in the University of London and one of the world's largest and strongest'.
Norman Flynn, the Department's Director of Studies (Distance Learning), and Greg Wood, acting Deputy Registrar (Distance Learning), added 'This exciting development enables us to improve further the strong support we give to our world wide students and take advantage of the benefits new technology can offer them'.
