Music mogul and founder of Creation Records, Alan McGee has agreed to become a visiting fellow on the popular music degree course at the University of Gloucestershire.

McGee was behind some of the seminal sounds of the 1990s, releasing albums by Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine, Teenage Fanclub, The Boo Radleys and Saint Etienne.  In 1992, he sold 49% of Creation Records to Sony, before discovering Oasis in 1993, who sold 27 million records making the record label one of the most influential in the world.  More recently, he has been involved in managing the careers of Mogwai, Dirty Pretty Things, The Charlatans and The Libertines.

As a visiting fellow, Alan McGee will lend his experience to the popular music course, ensuring that it is in line with the demands of the music industry and becoming involved with an industry advisory group.  He will also visit and speak to the students on a regular basis.

Associate Dean of Pittville Studios, Dr Ben Calvert said: “Alan has been the leading player in the British independent music scene of the last 20 years.  Creation records helped to shape the sounds of the 1990s, bringing Oasis and Primal Scream to the world to name but two.  Alan’s exceptional experience will be of considerable benefit to the course team and our students.”
