Five businesses which began life at De Montfort University’s Innovation Centre will spread their wings this month, leaving to build on their success at new premises.
The companies have been trading from incubation units at the Innovation Centre for between one and five years.
To celebrate the achievements of these flourishing enterprises, De Montfort University (DMU) is holding a ‘graduation’ event at the Innovation Centre this Friday, 28 September.
The businesses, which will relocate to commercial premises in Leicester city centre, are: NetreadyLtd, an IT business solutions company, and four design companies, Designeering, XDM Ltd, Zero 5, and Indigo Creative.
All five businesses were started by graduates of DMU and its predecessor institution, Leicester Polytechnic.
Janette Pallas, Business Incubation and Enterprise Manager at DMU, said: “The University values its close relationship with the business community and strives to stimulate innovation and prosperity in the city and region. We are delighted to celebrate the progression of these businesses and wish them every success as they continue to grow.”
Demand is high for DMU’s 17 incubation units, which provide a supportive environment for small businesses to begin and develop.
In the last five years 37 businesses have been incubated at the University, with an 81 per cent success rate.
The three-year survival rate for businesses in the Leicester Shire sub-region is 68.5 per cent, compared with 70.6 per cent in the East Midlands and 68.9 per cent nationally.*
