THE latest exhibition to take to the walls and halls of Wales Millennium Centre (WMC) is work by UWIC’s Cardiff School of Art and Design who are hosting IMPRINT, three distinct exhibitions on the art of Printmaking produced in collaboration with its Fine Art Printmaking department.

V-9 U-9 Digital Portfolio is the result of a research project based on original collage work and involving nine artists from India and nine artists from the UK. The portfolio of 24 prints is based on the theme of identity.

The second exhibition features the work of PROOF V-6, a group of well established contemporary artists based at the Cardiff School of Art and Design, while the third shows a selection of work by recent graduates of the printmaking department at the College.

Tom Piper head of the printmaking department at UWIC said: “This exhibition shows the wide range of subject matter interest along with a variety of techniques and methods used by this talented group of staff, students and guest artists.

“The V9 U9 digital portfolio was recently shown at Siggraph 2007 in San Diego, California. Siggraph is the most important conference and exhibition of contemporary computer based art in the world. We were very pleased to be invited to show the V9 U9 project in California in August”.

The exhibition, which will show at WMC until Wednesday 7 November, is held on the first and second balconies at WMC and entry is free to the building.

Wales Millennium Centre’s Chief Executive Judith Isherwood explains, “Our aim is to promote the work of contemporary Welsh and Wales-based artists. In these exhibitions we are showcasing the work of both established Welsh artists and the new talent emerging from UWIC, whilst also showing how Wales can promote other cultures and identity through an innovative collaborative art project.”
