温切斯特大学学生代表英国参加国际奥林匹克化学竞赛
Derek Chan (Coll) and Freddie Manners (Coll) left for Moscow on 14 July to represent the UK at the 39th International Chemistry Olympiad which is taking place at Moscow State University from 15 -24 July 2007. Dr Charles McCaw, Head of Chemistry, who is Head Mentor and one of the trainers for the UK team, travelled with them to Moscow.
The pupils gained places in the UK team as a result of their performances in Round Two of the British Chemistry Olympiad. Eighteen-year-old Derek Chan achieved first place in Round Two which took place at Keele University in March 2007 whilst Freddie Manners, aged seventeen, came first in Round One of the competition. It is unusual for two members of the 4 member - UK Team to be selected from the same school.
