World premiere for lecturers' play
University of Bolton lecturers Les Smith and Martin Thomasson will see their play – And Did Those Feet – premiere at the Octagon Theatre on Thursday 27 September 2007.
Especially commissioned by the award-winning Octagon Theatre, the play is a highlight of the theatre's 40th anniversary celebrations.
Based on the events surrounding the 'White Horse' FA Cup final in 1923 between Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United, the play is set in Bolton in the early 1920s, a time of great political and social change leading to upheaval and divisions in the town.
And Did Those Feet is a heart-warming, funny and inspiring play about the passion for 'the beautiful game', its ability to bring people and communities together and how the residents of one Bolton street unite behind their team.
The seven-strong cast of And Did Those Feetincludes Jeff Hordley, who is best known for his role as Cain Dingle in Emmerdale. by the Octagon's award-winning Artistic Director, Mark Babych.
Said Les, Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Bolton: 'We are delighted to play such an important part in the Octagon's celebratory season. Theatre and football are two great passions in Bolton – it's a real joy to write a play that brings them both together.'
