The Story of Three Wishes(愿望)

A despondent(沮丧的) woman was walking along the beach(沙滩) when she saw a bottle on the sand. She picked it up and pulled out(拔出) the cork(木塞). Woosh(哎呀)! A big puff(喷) of smoke appeared.

"You have released(释放) me from my prison(监狱), "the genie(妖怪，鬼怪) told her, "To show my thanks, I grant(授予) you three wishes. But take care, for with each wish, your mate(伴侣) will receive(收到) double of whatever you request(要求，请求)."

"Why?" the woman asked. "That bum(游手好闲者) left me for(离开我去找。。。) another woman."

"That is how it is written," replied the genie. The woman shrugged(耸肩膀) and then asked for a million dollars. There was a flash of light(闪现一道光) and a million dollars appeared at her feet. At the same time, in a far-off(遥远的)place, her wayward(任性的) husband looked down to see(低头看见) twice that amount at his feet.

"And your second wish?"

"Genie, I want the world's most expensive diamond necklace.(钻石项链)" Another flash of light, and the woman was holding the precious treasure(宝物).

And, in that distant(遥远的) place, her husband was looking for a gem(宝石) broker(经济人) to buy her latest(最新的) bonanza(宝物，富矿带，好运).

"Genie, is it really true that my husband has two million dollars and more jewels(珠宝) than I do and that he gets double of whatever I wish for?"

The genie said it was indeed true.

"Okay, genie, I'm ready for my last wish," the woman said, "Scare(吓唬) me half to death."
