无忧雅思网：王老师您好，08年已经过去3个多月了，通过这3个多月的雅思考试，您认为口语有哪些变化吗？

王毅：In terms of test format, there isn't a slightest change despite the fact UCLES in asscoiation with British Council and IDP Australia is planning for another major improvement/adaptation for the IELTS speaking module. Second, in terms of questions and topics in the speaking test module, some new contents are added to the official question bank. But one can be assured that over 80% of the questions of each single test are from the old question bank. And therefore good preparation and practice for these topics and questions are very essential.

无忧雅思网：现在雅思考生人数在逐年增多，我想替很多新手问一下，第一次参加雅思口语考试，有哪些注意事项？谢谢！

王毅：I am not going to mention too many but just two here. 1. Take an IELTS speaking course, where most questions one may have will be answered in class. Plus, the teacher may also offer lots of useful test tips, skills and resources. 2. Get enough practice either by speaking to a native speaker or a test partner, or by reciting pre-prepared answers to test questions and topics as much as possible.

网友cicidream：我是大三学生,目前专业是国际贸易.想申请英国学校的法学专业的MASTER.在本科成绩>85,IELTS成绩7分的条件下,可以申请英国前10,澳洲前3的学校么?

王毅：I am not very familiar with Law courses in Australia or the UK. So my suggestion is write to the admission offices of universities you are interested in. That is the best way to find out. And you can also come to our school reception where we provide free visa and school application service. So make use of it.

网友Nancy：上次听您说日语，真不错！问个问题，我十月考雅，在口语方面，您说过，口语在于准备，那是不是要针对性的准备几组很容易考到的话题，先自己写，然后让老师改（这样避免考场有雷同的危险），然后背下来，考试灵活运用。那么，能简单介绍哪些问题可以经常会考，我下去准备哦～～

王毅：Yes. What you've said is a very good strategy. For stage 1 of the speaking test module, there are four topics that appear very often in the test: education, occupation, hometown and hobbies (music, movies, books, shopping, leisure time, etc.). For stage 2, all the topics can be put into four categories, namely people cards (old people, child, leader, etc.) , object cards (website, gift, movie, homework, project, sport played as a child, etc.), place cards (park, a city, swimming pool, hotel, etc.), and event cards (sporting event, a change in life, an important decision, an environmental issue, etc.). For stage 3, questions of this stage often correspond to stage 2 topic. The key: speak with fluency and confidence. Be natural. Don't worry about the contents of your speech. But make demonstrating your English level the highest priority.

网友Nell：会不会哪一天雅思也像托福一样，阅读，口语什么的都在电脑上答题，我害怕～～～

王毅：My answer is yes and no. But it is not something you need to worry about at this moment, or at least in the near future. Though IELTS does have a computer based test called CB IELTS, it is only avaible in a few selected test center out of China. UCLES and its partners are still collecting feedback from the intial rollout and there is not yet a definite time-table to expand CB IELTS to other test centers.

网友yoy：王老师，您好，上次彭静老师说如果今年四月前烤鸭会相对容易，为什么啊？能再介绍几个技巧么，比如说，上次您告诉我们的，问原因，不知道，就往女朋友身上扯，呵呵

王毅：Well, to answer your question I think I may need to ask her in person, plue she may not tell me for it might be her secret "weapon". But anyway IELTS has been proven to be a fairly scientific test that can refect a person's language competence to a large extent. So...don't worry. Just register for test whose test date best suits you. As to skills, if you have already sat in my class, please review your class notes. They should be all there. 网友：每次做阅读，有时文章看不懂，但是题目可以作对70%，是不是出题人故意搞的文章难而其实题目简单，他的目的也并不在让你去读懂文章。 每个单词其实都有很多意思，但是在语境中，单词我很熟悉，况且我语法也不差，但是一句话就是不知道是什么意思，一看答案，却又恍然大悟，觉得很简单，那么我应该从哪里入手，是不是该训练英译汉，或是买本新概念3回来细细品读？？？（我打算明年考IELTS）

王毅：One ability that IELTS tests of is scanning for specific detail in text and skimming for the general idea. So for most of the IELTS question, one doesn't have to read and understand every detail of the passage to answer each question correctly, but rather skim through the passage and scan for the relevant information to the question and then find the answer. However, one can't entirely rely upon scanning or skimming to answer all the questions, for there are also some other questions that test test-takers of their ability to identify the writer's overall purpose or to identify and follow key arguments in the text. So my suggestion is practice reading for general ideas and reading for details in the same time.

网友joy：口语其实我并不差，但是总是找不到话题，3分钟我1分钟不到就没词了，怎样展开话题，或是怎样在短时间内有效的进行brianstorm？

王毅：In class, I teach students to practice their skills to elaborate. I encourage them either to join other ideas to their existing answers or to stretch and expand their answers by adding more details, such as descriptions or commentaries. You can try the same.

网友：老师谈谈作文好吗？我急死了，因为老师说过，在考场上，你不可能想起很多你背过的句子和词汇，那么我能不能总结200个左右的句子和同义替换的词汇，把它们记死了，记烂了（当然会活用他们），然后我到考场，碰见good就用benifical等等，然后写几句复杂句，扣了题，写出的作文能不能得高分，这样算不算一条捷径？

王毅：My answer is definitely no. Here you are talking about getting a high score, not a passing score. So I assume you need to score above 7. To do so, one need more than just grammar or vocabulary but also well-development argument and well-presented examples, without which an article with only high-sounding words and hard-to-construe sentences is nothing but just a handsome guy with no contents, no characters, who is good for nothing.

网友：还有半年口语，现在怎么准备，选择合适话题背诵吗？

王毅：In your case, I would strongly advise you to sit in an IELTS speaking course, which can help you to familiarize yourself with most of the IELTS speakign questions and topics. The teacher can also customize for you a study plan and help you to imporve your English level.

网友小陈：您认为雅思今后出题会越来越难么，新题会不会越来越多，您建议什么时间考试合适？

王毅：According to published research data, there isn't much variation in the difficulty level of all the test versions. It is almost certain that UCLES in association with British Council and IDP Australia will release new question types and modify the speaking and writing modules. But when and how are still unknown. Finally, as to your question of test date, I advise you to take the test on the date that is most convenient for you. No one can tell you which single test is easier, which is harder. They are all on the same difficulty level.

网友chang：您对五月份的考生有什么建议?复习的重点在哪里?

王毅：For speaking section, students should go through a three-step process. Step 1: review class notes. Step 2: write answers for important questions and topics. Then read them everyday. Step 3: Collect new questions and topics and practice them. The most important of these are step 1 and 2, because in class the teacher should have already covered most of the important questions and topics and have taught the important skills as to how to circumvent if one can't answer a very difficult question.

网友：请问现在看雅思阅读真经1会不会太老，题目不可能再现，而要选择2或3来熟悉题型？

王毅：In my reading class I never ask my students to buy or use those books, simply because there are some errors in there and they can be misleading. But it is always no hard to read more reading materials even though they are not the original passages from the test.
