伯明翰城市大学健康学院公共卫生课程详解
英国伯明翰城市大学Health School 是英国最大的健康学院之一,现有学生7000名左右,MSc Public Health 作为健康学院的王牌课程之一,近几年也向中国学生开放,该学院也希望可以招募更多优秀的中国学生,为课程注入一股新鲜的东方血液。
而在去年,健康学院更投入200万英镑,为集中整合资源,完善教学设施,新增设虚拟的放疗套房,并为学生和专家开设模拟资源室等。
MSc Public Health作为健康学院的王牌课程之一,一直以来都深受英国以及国际学生的喜爱。
课程要求如下:
1. Relevant level 6 study (‘degree level’) or equivalent.
2. Your application should demonstrate your understanding of the factors which determine the population’s health, and what type of actions can help to improve public health.
3. Relevant experience would be very beneficial for example, experience working in public health, environmental health, youth work, housing etc. (Applications are welcome from suitable individuals with a clinical healthcare background.)
4. International students should additionally have an English Language qualification as specified by the International Office

There are three main aspects we wish applicants to address (500-750 words in total)
1. In relation to your understanding of factors determining population health and Public health practice:
Public Health (PH) has been defined as “The science & art of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organised efforts of society”? Do agree or disagree with the definition and if so, why? [There is no correct or incorrect answer but we want you to comprehensively articulate your perspective.
Can you identify some of the key perspectives on public health? Applicants are encouraged to research this question through online mediums and summarise the most practiced perspectives
2. In relation to your experience of working in public health:
Describe an employment period, internship or voluntary position where you demonstrated / observed closely Public Health practice?
Describe your personal awareness of Public Health issues, concepts, insights and evidence of effectiveness of public health programmes in your country
3. In relation to your application to study the course at Birmingham City University:
Contrast Birmingham City University’s MSc Public Health programme http://www.bcu.ac.uk/courses/public-health with another UK University PH programme? Describe the differences between what each course specifically teaches? What are the different learning outputs of the two courses?
Birmingham City University’s programme has been described as, “This is a highly-regarded course which has developed over 20 years, to occupy a valuable niche in public health training: it covers all areas of the UK National Standards for Practice in Public Health, while having a particular focus on the social and interpersonal aspects of health.” As the course draws on UK PH practice, describe what you will gain from learning a British practice based PH perspective, and how you will apply that learning, when you return to your country?
