We are writing to let you know of some significant changes to our English language requirements for postgraduate Masters programmes within our College of Arts & Social Sciences (CASS).

As you may be aware previously the Business School required students to achieve an overall IELTS score of 7, or TOEFL/Pearson equivalent, to directly enter a Masters programme. We are pleased to now let you know that from January 2012 students applying to any Masters programme within CASS will only need to achieve 6.5 overall, with 6 in Readingand 6 in Writing (and not lower than 5.5 in other areas of Listening and Speaking) Given the very specialised nature of many of the Master programmes within CASS we feel it is important to ensure that the reading level of all our students is high, hence the new requirement for the reading ability.

Students applying to any other Masters programme out with CASS will continue to have the same requirements of 6.5 overall and 6 in writing.

Arrangements are also being made to restructure the pre-sessional English programmes we provide and more details will be sent to you as soon as they become available. This information has only just been released, and will be showing on our website soon.
